SUNSET OVER BUZZARDS BAY

Really the sunset is gorgeous over Buzzards Bay in Falmouth at Chapaquoit Beach.  Buzzards Bay gets its name from the buzzards that would hover over the leper colonies on islands off of Falmouth waiting for the more dead bodies to feast on.   Gross and I don't know how true.  Still it's expansive and great for swimming as the sun sets on a late August day.

A bay with any other name would not be half so ominous.  But you can't judge a bay by its title.  BOCA DE CIEGO as the bay should be renamed to honor another eater of carrion flesh the sea gull would be much more romantic.  How about Boca Raton,Grande or Bournes Bridge Bay for you non fluent speakers of Spanish.

SUNSET ON BUZZARDS BAY-FALMOUTH,MA
Anyway sunset on the bay is just as good as watching the sun go down on Galway Bay or Cape Cod Bay.  The Buzzards keep the tourists away and let the locals enjoy the sunset.  So that must be the rationale for giving a beautiful bay such an ugly name.

MITT VS THE MAFIA

I'm a Democrat but still I watched Ann Romney's  and Chris Christie's speeches on the first full day of the Republican Convention in Tampa,Florida as Hurricane Isaac slowly approached New Orleans.  Ann was beautiful, vibrant in red and, passionate about her husband and family as she expressed a theme of love.  Granted she ws straight out of Hollywood but very pleasing and noble as she subtly fought for her man to be President(or was it for her to be First Lady?).
Chris Christie was fat, brash and proud to carry on the "Enforcer" role of his Sicilian mother.  His mother ruled the family over his Irish American college educated father,  Christie indubitably a product of New Jersey Catholic Schools was proud that he had forced the Teachers Union to give some concessions on their pension instead of raising taxes.
CHRIS CHRISTIE BEFORE A SHAVE
Mitt and his wife sat in the audience looking like they were constipated.  There were no smiles  or hurrrahs as this gavone spoke in enforcer language.  Finally the gavonathon ended and Christie went back to New Jersey to wait the call for a Presidential nomination in 2016.  Then he'll proudly put an end to public education and save taxpayers billions of dollars.  At last a world of Snookys from Jersey Shore will rule the USA.

ENCORE

I changed my password again.  I do it often.  Every time I log on they ask for it.  Unfortunately when I create a new one I forget it by the next day.  They this one is strong.  Hopefully I'll remember it.  I should  because it's very important in my life.  But usually that doesn't matter.  I forget anyway.  I guess it's Google Alzheimers Syndrome.  A senior moment.
My husband and I had a giant breakup over the last scam I received.  I tried to read it to him.  It was very wordy containing several paragraphs.  Hubby doesn't like to be read to.  He kept telling me to stop before I got to the third paragraph where the sum of $1800 was requested so this realtor that I barely know could pay her hotel and air flight expenses in Madrid, Spain.  She had been robbed and cancelled all her credit cards,  I wonder if she had a passport.  A few months ago a missionary in Africa for the next six years was trying to rent out my townhouse which she said she owned.  She used my maiden name. My realtor(not he one in Madrid) received many calls and had a copy of the email which said you could drive by to see it but not inside because the owner was in Africa.
So my request of scammers is to be less wordy.  My husband refuses to listen to a long explanation.  It is creating conflict in our marriage.  He only cares about pizza, golf and baseball and does not want to hear your attempts to steal my money and real estate.  We reported it to Craigs List to no avail.  I can't divorce because then I'd have  my maiden name and have to actually be missionary for six years in Africa.
KEEP YOUR PROBLEMS IN YOUR REAR VIEW MIRROR
It's deja vu encore again.  C'est la vie.

PRE-ILLUMINATION NIGHT BOAT TRIP TO OAK BLUFFS ON MARTHAS VINEYARD

Pre-Illumination Night Gingerbread Houses on Marthas Vineyard
Last year I got stuck on Martha Vineyard after I missed the last boat out and there were no rooms in the Inn.  The illumination of the lanterns on each  of the 200 houses surrounding the Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs didn't happen last year until the last ferry had left the island.  So I missed the boat but saw the lights after the band had played on and on and on.The President was vacationing on the island the next day so all the hotel rooms on the island were full of CIA,FBI,SECRET SERVICE AND THE PRESIDENTS GOLF AND BASKETBALL PARTNERS.  I had to sleep on a bench in the open air Tabernacle.
This year I went to the Oak Bluffs Camp Meeting Grounds a day early hoping the Methodists had put up their lanterns a day in advance.  No such luck.  But all the Gingerbread houses were freshly painted with bright colors and the flowers were at their peak.  My favorite house which has pictures from the Wizard of Oz painted on the front had an enormous Morning Glory vine that stretched up a telephone line like Jack In the Beanstalk.  The noon Island Queen ship was full in Falmouth.  So I had to wait until 1:30 for the next boat out of Falmouth Harbor.  I came back on the Steamship Authority ferry to Woods Hole because we were warned the Island Queen might be full for the two trips back after 3:45.  Otherwise I would have only had two hours and 15 minutes on the island.  My return ship was called  The  Marthas  Vineyard.
I always get inspired when I visit the gingerbread houses on Marthas Vineyard.  One year I tried to buy one.   But they are on leased land, have covenants such as that you must participate in the lantern Illumination Night, must occupy your house for two weeks every year and most are not winterized.  So usually I just paint a colorful picture on my shed in the backyard of my Falmouth Cape Cod house.  This year I will paint it yellow to match the 10 foot yellow daisy I  painted on the side last year.  I used my acrylic art paint and it's still there.
Last year's Oak Bluff's Illumination Night in August
So as Emily Dickinson said:  We were young,we were merry as we rode back and forth on the ferry.  Getting there is half the fun.  I can see Marthas Vineyard from my beach on Cape Cod.  I vow every year I will get out of my rut and visit the island often.  It takes a special event to make me take the half hour voyage from Falmouth to Oak Bluffs.  Really you could do it daily.  The delicious fish sandwich at Nancy's when you get off the boat is worth it.  Now that's an illuminating thought.

HORSESHOE CRAB HEART

FALMOUTH ROAD RACE

NOT THE HORSESHOE CRAB HEART BUT SOME PEOPLE WITH A LOT OF HEART
THE RUNNERS RUN RIGHT PAST FALMOUTH'S NOBSKA LIGHTHOUSE
FALMOUTH ROAD RACE FLAG
There's not much left of the horseshoe crab heart on the beach.  Someone had taken 20 dead horseshoe crabs and seaweed and fashioned them into the shape of a heart on the beach with a peace sign design in the center.   When I came back to photograph the heart on Falmouth Heights Beach it had been all spread apart.  The heart was broken.  All the horseshoe crabs were belly up on the beach with their heart broken.  I imagine the peace heart was made by one of the Falmouth Road Race runners who was wearing an Obama tee shirt while she ranthe seven miles from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights.
ANOTHER SAND SCULPTURE NICE BUT NOT THE HEART
Of course the  Africans won the Falmouth Road Race.  They do every year.  Later the American(white) runners crossed the finish.  Still it's fun to watch them run right on the road along the ocean.

SEAS THE DAY

If  you're lucky enough to live by the sea, you're lucky enough.  When I'm just going to the supermarket or the library in Falmouth on Cape Cod,I drive by Vineyard Sound.  Martha's Vineyard is in the distance seven miles away.  Our supermarket is just like every other one in the USA but our library on Falmouth's Main Street is wonderful.  There's lots of marble, fireplaces, murals and sitting alcoves.  Usually I sit near the large windows on a couch with a coffee table.  The scenery out the window is pleasant with massive trees towering over the library lawn and the hustle and bustle of Main Street's shoppers and traffic nearby. On the shelves are enormous art and history books about French Painting or The History of Television to peruse on the coffee table.  The ride home passes the town harbor,Falmouth Heights Beach, Bristol Beach and Menauhant Beach.  Little Pond,Green Pond and Bournes Pond are inlets running to Vineyard Sound whose briges I cross when heading home.  Sometimes teenagers stand by the DON'T JUMP signs on the small bridges waiting to jump into the water.  It's a Summer ritual at High Tide from the bridges into the riptide inlet. So if you're lucky enough be sure to see the sea each day.

MARTHAS VINEYARD'S GINGERBREAD HOUSES

These are some of  Marthas Vineyard's brightly painted gingerbread houses at The Camp Meeting Ground in Oak Bluffs.  You sail away from Falmouth,Massachusetts on Cape Cod on the Island Queen to get there.  In a half hour you'll be on the Vineyard.  It's just a short walk past seafood restaurants, a Carousel and the shopping district to be transported back into the early 20th century and the hundreds of colorful gingerbread houses in a circle at the Camp Meeting Ground behind Oak Bluffs main street.  Colorful bric a brac decorate the two story wood frame homes that replaced the original tents used by the first residents.  If you're really lucky you'll arrive on Illumination Night when every gingerbread house is covered with lanterns.  The band plays and there's a group sing a long just before the signal for the lanterns to be turned on.   Unfortunately the last boat back to Cape Cod leaves before 9pm, so be sure to reserve a hotel or bed and breakfast before venturing on the island.
